Female Red Crossbill 2 of 2

Here she is just before she flew down to feed her baby. I love her coloring. I have yet to get a picture of a male. Apparently they are a beautiful brick color with brown wings.

Female Red Crossbill 1 of 2

Also on my wanderings this week I finally heard the sounds of a Crossbill. To my amazement I spotted the female. She was just attending a baby which unfortunately had fallen out of the nest. After she feed the baby I went and took a look. The infant was quite capable of flying, but chose to hide in the grass instead. I did go back the next day to make sure the infant was ok....and like I had thought it had flown away.

Female House Sparrow 2 of 2

Here's a different profile....lovely isn't she.

Female House Sparrow 1 of 2

I caught these lovely shots down at Rithets Bog yesterday. She was more curious about me and was trying to get my attention. I was trying to get a great shot of a Red-winged black bird. But she convinced me that it was her I needed to pay attention too.

Answer for Michaela

Michaela,

Thank you for your lovely compliments and your wise words...now to your question about what kind of camera I use. Here it is : Canon PowerShot SX10IS. This camera is one below an SLR. What I love about my Camera is that it has alot of options to modify the effect you want. I have really played around with different functions of the camera...but like you said every day is an opportunity to learn. That I am....and loving every moment I'm out and about! Have a wonderful day. :)

Caught my Eye...closer view

Here's a closer shot of the same tree....I just love the light.

Caught my Eye...

While out for a walk after work yesterday, the light caught my eye. Here is the sun catching the curling bark of Arbutus Tree....I thought the effect was very neat.

Skunk Cabbage

Who says that Skunk Cabbage isn't beautiful.....here's a shot that should please most!

Ocean Sunset

Just as I was about to head home I couldn't resist capturing this lovely sunset....Loving those fab colors that only a good sunset can give...

Noticed

It didn't take long for the Heron to notice me....and soon after flew away...notice how it's looking right at me.

Concentration

While at the ocean the other day, I came across a Blue Heron fishing ....the look of concentration was very intense.

my Bath 6of 6

There I hope you enjoyed the bath series.....I think it is totally cool. :)

My Bath 1 of 6

Well the focus today was the bird bath. I ended up being at home today to look after one of my son's who was unfortunate to get a tummy bug. So I entertained myself in the back yard.

Silly Human still not wet enough...let me try again!!

Yep things really got out of hand as you can plainly see....I just couldn't get over how smart the seal was.....really tickled my rib cage today.....hahahahahah

Hot?...hahah Let me splash you!

In the first shot as you can see it is a beautiful tranquil picture...but that soon changed. As more people noticed him/her the seal really surprised me, and started splashing people...and by the smile I think the seal was enjoying it self.

Beautiful Seal

In Victoria B.C we are very blessed with a variety of diverse environments. Forests, Bogs, Ocean side landscapes, sculped gardens. We are known here for Butchards Gardens. But today I visited the ocean side and what did I come across yes a playful seal. In the next two shots you will see why....ENJOY...hahah I did

Bog Series.....startled

These two I startled into to the water....I love the refection above them....

Bog Series.....going fishing

This lovely Harron was fishing today on the bog.....I wonder what he finds in there. Not fish I know that much.

Bog Series of Three

The next three shots are taken at our local bog. Rithets (hopefully I spelled it right) I noticed that alot of the birds here are tagged, not a good sign. Generally that means that the type of birds are being tracked due to a possibility that they are on the edge of being in endangered.

Homeward bound!

Here is one of my male mason bees flyin home.....so cute... :)

Tight fit

Hey everyone I would like to share with you my marvelous mason bees! Finally it has been warm enough for them to hatch. Here is a shot of two males trying to fit into the same tube. The males always hatch 10 days before the females. When the females hatch the males only live until all the females have been fertilized with goodness to continue the species. Sad really the males are very cute compared to the females. I will take some shots of the females once the mason house becomes more active. Quite wonderful little bugs, without them we wouldn't have as much food to eat.

A Fushia Drop

Just lovely...especially for the humming birds.

Dropping by for a Drink

I have a little water fountain in my yard that I like to keep on for the birds that I feed. Generally when I'm outside the birds don't bother coming by...but this little chickadee was just too thirsty to worry about me...I got a few snaps but this one I loved the best because of the water feature I was able to incorporate as well.

Vivid

This shot was a stretch for my camera....you can tell it's not as crisp as I would like. But the refection and the beauty can still be appreciated....This is what you get if you don't has an SLR...but I'm still happy with my camera :) Any tips on how I could have gotten a better shot? Anyone?

Water Shadow

This is the last posting of the swan shots I managed to get. In this shot it was a total fluke. But I managed to capture a water droplet coming off the beak, and capturing the image as a shadow in their body.

What do you have there

In this picure my son Kenton was feeding the swans....normally I wouldn't post a picture with human content in the scene. I only like Nature photography. But the look and the fact that both swans are doing exactly the same thing...I couldn't resist...love the shot

My Groupies

I managed to get out on Sunday even after working for part of the day....wow talk about getting alot of pleasure in a small amount of time. This shot was taken at the Esquimalt Lagoon.

Hangin on the edge!

This was a fluke shot! Just like my James Bond themed shot from March. Chickadee's are extremely hard to get a shot of...constantly on the move.... enjoy
