Brown Butterfly...Basking in the Sunlight

Butterflies beautiful aren't they...but hard to find. I have been waiting for this moment to get some great captures of butterflies..but they are hard to get which I didn't realize. They don't spend alot of time being still that if for sure...flitting from one plant to the other or dancing in the air with others like themselves...these shots are my first attempt this year..I'm hoping to get better ones as the season progresses....they are so lovely and delicate I can't help but admire them....

Images of Pond Life....The dry bed hidden path

Morning everyone...today my focus is about ponds. In these three shots I have tried to capture what ponds really provide for all wild life. Ducks, bugs, plants, frogs and all that require water to survive. In the two shots below you can see the lush environment and the lovely contrasts that each plant provide for the environment. But in this picture you can see that with alot of drought which we have had here in Victoria ...we are already on water restrictions. We haven't had a good rain fall ...or substantial one for over a month. Usually this bed has running water that trickles down it from one pond to the other. But now that it's dry look at what is happening..new life it taking control of this newly transformed path...simply lovely.

Finding my way in....

Morning everyone...in my post today I have focused on two bugs...my lovely shot here of my bee. Plus a beetle shot. In the bee shot I was very amazed at how determined this bee really was...took a while for it to work it's way inside the flower. I found this process interesting. With the beetle though I was surprised...I haven't been in the country for some time now I have forgotten the song of the grasshopper. So when I heard this noise I thought I was tracking grasshoppers but when I finally found what it was it shocked me. Up on a branch this beetle was vibrating it's wings so fast that it was creating this noise. Mind you it took me and hour and almost on the edge of frustration to find it. Even though it was very large...I just couldn't see it till I was basically right on top of it. I even said out loud...Finally I found you!! One on my frustrations with my eye sight. My sons would have found the bug in no time if I had taken them out with me. But I didn't give up !!! Anyone know what kind of beetle it could be?

The Blackberry Blossom...

Wow alot can change in an environment in a week and a half....during my walk yesterday the brush is very lush right now. Tons of birds..but alas unable to find them now through the thick brush. The air yesterday was heavy with humidity...but I did hike for three hours and I'm very pleased with the results. I managed to get some very fantastic shots....here are a few for today. My theme being berries and blossoms soon to become my favorite of the summer time Blackberries!!!...yummmm...You don't have to worry about bears around here. Simply because I eat the berries before they get there!! Hahahhah

The Beauty of Fungus ....The Toad Stool

Have you ever noticed that when you have the opportunity to go for a walk in a very wooded forest where very little light filters onto the forest floor that you can smell that lovely rich aroma in the air. The smell of wood, moisture and freshness? I love that smell and I love everything that the forest provides for all life. One example of this process is Fungus it just loves the fallen old trees that have made the forest floor their final resting place that provides living spaces for bugs, grubs, Gastropods and mainly any living thing that relies on these process to occur. My favorite is the toadstool mainly for it's unquestionable beauty. It totally takes advantage of the moisture and lack of light in the soft spongy wood of dead trees....I just love the contrast from the decomposing of wood with life living....

Simply Black N White

Well happy Sunday everyone....today I thought I would put some Simply Black N White's up. This weekend I put my camera away and curled up instead with some great novels...something I enjoy doing from time to time. Just enjoying the story I get sucked into (with pleasure!!) During my time away from my camera it gave me time to reflect on my photography and what Nature really means to me. Do I focus on birds? Flowers? Bugs? Scenic shots....well yes to all. When I created my blog I thought my main focus was about birds..but as time has passed I have realized I don't really fit into that mold. I've tried to structure my blog into one category and I feel I haven't been very successful with that and I lost what Nature means to me in the process. So in light of my new thought processes this weekend I will be changing how people find my site...by changing my Nature blog from birds to more of an Ecosystem type of blog...where everything I post is a symbol of nature rather that just one main subject matter. As a whole I'm being more true to my heart rather than stuffing my Nature loves into a very tight cookie cutter so to speak...I hope you enjoy a more diverse Nature experience when you come to read and view my Nature posts.

Male House Sparrow...playing with light

In these two images that I captured while out at my second job gardening. I captured this Male house sparrow singing on a wire just over the property. It's the same bird but with a different perspective while playing with light. I carefully watched him and the light to see if I could capture a more dynamic view of him....it's interesting when you compare both pictures just how important light can be for your subject matter. I personally prefer this shot over the frontal you get more color details and a softness of the profile rather than the harsh frontal. What do you think?
