Lovely shot nice and sharp, love humingbirds. We paid a visit to America last year and captured afew good shots. The bird you asked about on our blog is called a Jay,which is the only Jay in the UK. Also thank you for your kind comments,Sue and I love your Blog. John.
...beautiful! We only get Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in Cincinnati, so I'm not familiar with all the species. Is this a Calliope Hummingbird? I love that little patch of violet on his lower cheek.
Thanks John and Sue!! The bird is a Jay...wow. Jay's here are Blue. We have three species here. The Stellar's Jay, Blue Jay and the Wetern Scrub-Jay. I have never seen the Scrub-Jay but the other two species are very common. It's interesting to find out about other species especially of the Jay. Very interesting.
Kelly no the hummingbird your veiwing today is the Anna's Hummingbird a male Juvenile. When fully developed his whole front of his face and neck will be that beautiful pink color. We also have the Rufous hummingbirds. I haven't gotten a shot of them yet this year.
