Male Purple Martin with Juvenile

Today was a beautiful day. Victoria reached a warm 21 and while I was out I knew I got burnt today. I'm a typical red head and burn to a crisp any time I head outside when the sun is out!!!...and I'm now aglow at my computer!!! ;) These beautiful Purple Martins are very much protected. Each bird has an ankle band and have special homes here in Victoria down at the Esquimalt Lagoon in Hatley Park. Their music is to dye for lovely sounds these Purple Martins make. To hear the sounds they make just Google for it....you won't be disappointed.

  1. Beautiful shot, I wish I could get the hang of getting shots of birds on wires against the sky.

  4. Lovely photos against the sky. Do you use single spot metering to get the exposure right? I always find it hard not to end up with a silhouette.

  5. Well thank you very much John. To answer your question above about single spot metering. I don't use one.I have very limited tools at my disposal. I only own a tripod and a Canon SX10IS.I'm a poor person who can't afford an SLR and all the gadgets that go with it. So with the tools I have this is what I get in return. I bet your surprised most people are.
